The International Academy of Science recognizes Dr. James Tjaden for his work in the Acellus Advanced Geography course. Dr. Tjaden received his Bachelor of Arts with Honors in History from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He went on to receive his Master's degree in Social Studies at the University of Iowa, followed by his Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction and his Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Geography and Geography Education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Dr. Tjaden has taught Tourism at William Rainy Harper Community College in Palatine, Illinois. He has taught Geography along with Tourism and Tourism Geography at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. In addition, he has taught Geography as well as Business and Marketing while concurrently chairing the Math/Science/Computing department at Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City. Dr. Tjaden is a Vietnam War veteran who was awarded the Bronze Star as well as Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medals. After an honorable discharge, he became involved in the travel industry, and eventually served in the management of Hobbit Travel in Des Plaines, Illinois and Uniglobe International Midwest, another large travel company, in Oak Brook, Illinois.
